GDPR is killing AI and innovation

Privacy is incredibly important and laws like GDPR when it was written was necessary to prevent and protect individuals privacy. That law in particular is now hampering the growth of AI and the innovation that comes from allowing citizens of a country to prosper from AI tools.

Meta and Apple just announced that they will not provide their latest AI tools and services in countries that abide by GDPR. This is a death sentence to innovation!  The affects of European countries, businesses, and nation states not having access to the latest tools to fight cyber crime, trafficking (human, child and sexual), immigration, migration, pollution, crime syndicates, and the complete impossibility to process all their data to create predictability models to prevent all of the latter from occurring will potentially send Europe into modern day Middle Ages.

“We will release a multimodal Llama model over the coming months, but not in the EU due to the unpredictable nature of the European regulatory environment,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement to CNET”

How can European officials or business leaders attend a meeting and everyone there is more and better informed, potentially have already negotiated deals that are so complex that discussing those deals the old fashion way would have taken month but with AI it took only seconds but the European official is not aware of this because they only know the old way and their country or business will no longer be included in future activities.

This will establish Europe as being a digital third world countries while the existing third world countries will replace them with new solar or hydroelectric powered AI data centers and the access to the latest AI tools and innovations running their public sectors and private businesses.

GDPR is killing AI and innovation – A fix the Problem

GDPR must be re-written for each individual country allowing each country to decide on what limitations and exceptions are applicable to their country and citizens. Europe is not one country, it’s a group name for several countries. Lets treat countries with individual respect and recognition that they deserve.

The quickest way for Europe to get back in the AI race is for Europe to stop thinking it can think for everyone all at the same time. AI is so competent that it can and will think individually for everyone in Europe at the same time so why don’t we let each country decide for itself?
